Match preview: Tavistock v Larks, Saturday 22nd November

By Sam Hart

Following a return to winning ways against Bashley thanks to goals from Jack Camm, Max Williams, and Kieran Phillips, who scored on his debut, the Larks are back in action this weekend as we travel to Tavistock AFC, who are currently sat rock bottom of the Southern League Division One South table. Ollie Price’s side will be looking for another three points to add to their tally.

Last Time Out

As previously mentioned, Larkhall ran out 3-1 winners against Bashley after falling behind in the early stages of the game. Bashley’s Lewis Waterfield opened the scoring in the 16th minute with an audacious lob from 35 yards out. The Larks responded well, grabbing an equaliser through Jack Camm’s wonderful strike which sent the Larks into half time on level terms.

Larkhall took the advantage in the 47th minute through Max Williams. After relentless pressure, new signing Kieran Phillips scored the third and final Larks goal of the game on his debut to make it 3-1 to the hosts. Larkhall could have finished the game with more goals but unfortunately failed to make the most of their chances.

The Opposition

Tavistock AFC were founded in 1888 and are based in Tavistock, Devon. A club with a rich history, Tavistock AFC have floated in the regional divisions of the non-league pyramid. In 2007, they became founding members of the Southwest Peninsula League Premier Division, a league of which they are two-time winners. They currently play at Langsford Park, which has been the club’s home since 1947.

The club currently play their football in the Southern League Division One South under manager, Stuart Hutchinson. Tavvy haven’t had the best start to the campaign but have a good record against the Larks at home.

Previous Results

We have faced this opposition twice already this season. The first meeting resulted in a loss in the Isuzu FA Trophy. The game ended 1-1after 90 minutes, and Tavistock defeated Larkhall seven-six on penalties. The second meeting, at Plain Ham, resulted in a more positive outcome for the Larks, as we ran out 2-0 winners in the league, with goals coming from Harvey Flippance either side of half time.

Larks will be hoping to further avenge that cup defeat with another league win this Saturday.

One To Watch

We have picked out Eric Bowker as one to watch for this weekend’s fixture. Bowker netted twice in his last outing against Westbury United, taking his goal tally up to four for the season so far. In fine form, he is certainly one to watch out for against Larkhall this weekend.
