Super sub spares Larks’ blushes

The Larks won the bragging rights in the local derby against Melksham Town with a last minute penalty coolly taken by sub Dawid Regula.

Prior to that, it had been a story of missed chances for both sides, but especially for the Larks who won a hat-full of corners with no end product. Alex Lambert came closest to scoring in the first half with a rocket of a strike that came off the bar.

There were spells in the second half when only stalwart Melksham defending and a lack of composure in the Larks’ forward line prevented us taking a lead. Hardworking Eben Mortimer-Taylor had two efforts thwarted at close range. However, having dominated the first half, the home side were vulnerable to a Melksham break. Albie Hopkins was a constant threat for the visitors and we only kept a clean sheet at the death thanks to Spencer Dymond-Hall heading off the line.

Just as it looked like we were heading for a 0-0 stalemate, Dawid came on determined to make an impact. Having fired wide on his first attempt he won and then scored the decisive penalty to see the Larks home.
